Our story

Where tradition meets science

For centuries Mongolians have burned juniper and thyme to cleanse the home and the space around them, passing the practice from one generation to the next. The fragrant smoke of juniper and thyme has become part of Mongolian domestic life, of its customs, and of a culture that lives in step with nature.

Within Buddhism and traditional ritual, burning juniper and thyme is held to purify a space, to clear unwelcome energy and to settle an atmosphere of calm.

Modern science approaches the same plants from a different angle. Juniper and thyme contain a range of naturally occurring bioactive compounds and constituents with antioxidant properties, and research into their chemical composition and biological activity continues to this day.

Gobidara takes this centuries-old practice and gives it a modern form, delivering the qualities of juniper and thyme as an easy-to-use spray — with nothing to burn.

Gobidara began while she was studying pharmacy at the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences, where research work first drew her in. Using a traditional wooden still, she distilled essential oil from Mongolian thyme — the foundation of everything the company makes today. She started in her home kitchen, developed the business in a 10m² room at the Ulaanbaatar Innovation Centre, and brought her first products to market in 2020. Gobidara now operates its own facility, built to GMP requirements, and continues to expand its product range.

Dr. D. Enkhjargal is a Professor at the School of Pharmacy, Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences (MNUMS), where she serves as a faculty member and consulting expert. She is a leading scientist and researcher specializing in medicinal plant research (pharmacognosy) and pharmaceutical quality and safety.
